Enos Etta Herr (November 1, 1869 - February 23, 1948) was born on November 1, 1869, in Refton, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, as the daughter of Enos
Breneman Herr (1843–1869) and Mary Elizabeth Herr (1840–1912). Throughout her life and career, she became part of a notable academic and domestic
community in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where she lived for many years. In her domestic life, she shared a home in Wellesley with
Emily Greene Balch and Agnes Perkins of the Wellesley College
English department, a household that was eventually joined by Mabel Cummings. This community reflected the
close-knit, supportive domestic networks common among professional women and academic figures of the era.
Etta Herr passed away at the age of 78 on February 23, 1948, in Wellesley, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. News of her passing reached her relatives
back in Pennsylvania, including her cousin Miss Mary E. Herr of Wheatland Avenue, noting that her closest surviving relatives were cousins. Her funeral
arrangements included a graveside service conducted by Rev. Robert C. Batchelder, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church, and she was laid to rest in the
Willow Street Mennonite Church Cemetery in Willow Street, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
